APO held an agricultural waste granulation technology conference in Laos

The Green Technical Service Team, in collaboration with the Cleaner Production Center of Laos (CPC-L) under the aegis of the Ministry of Industry and Commerce of Laos, held an agricultural waste granulation technology conference in May. 20 guests attended the conference. During the conference, the service team had a meaningful conversation with KPC Rice Trading Company, which expressed its intention for further collaboration with Taiwanese vendors. The collaboration may take the form of a joint application, tentatively to take place next year, to APO for an APO demonstration project focusing on rice-derived pellet fuels as biofuels for home burners.  In addition, CPC-L stated their interest in collaborating with ITRI to submit an application to United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) for organic rankine cycle (ORC) power generating technology transfer.

In September, Mr. Thongphet Phonesavath, acting director of CPC-L, visited Taiwan on the Green Technical Service Team’s invitation. The objectives of the trip included a visit to the bulk waste recycling and reuse demonstration site established by New-Bondafide Machinery Co., Ltd., a Taiwanese biomass energy machinery company in Fangliao, Pingtung, and a discussion with related partners to plan the APO demonstration project application. The Green Technical Service Team will visit Laos again in November, along with Taiwanese vendors, to follow up on the joint APO demonstration project application, tentatively scheduled to be submitted in 2019, with Laos CPC-L, local rice mills and lumber mills. Hanpower, a Taiwanese ORC power generating solution provider, will conduct a preliminary assessment of the thermal parameters from a local cement mill to customize the best ORC technology solution for the local use.
